FIBA WOMEN’S AFROBASKET: D’Tigress Through To Fourth Consecutive Final

Nigeria Female Basketball Team, D’Tigress see off host Rwanda in the semi-finals match to book their place to the final at the ongoing FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Kigali, Rwanda.

The defending champion started on an impressive note to beat the host 48-79 on Thursday evening in a one sided encounter.

D’Tigress under coach Rena Wakama did excellently well with an impressive performance with 6-22 12-22 17-14 and 13-21 in the first, second, third and fourth quarter respectively.

D’Tigress run riot in the first, second and fourth quarter, to complete the impressive victory.

Nigeria reached the final after two comfortable wins in group stage.

They began with a 69-35 demolition of Dr Congo before seeing off Egypt 83-65 in the group stage.

They also defeated Mozambique 59-52 in the quarter-finals.

D’Tigress will now face winners between Mali and Senegal in the final billed for Sunday.

By making Afro basket final, D’Tigress have snapped one of the two available slots to play in the FIBA Women’s Olympic qualifying tournament scheduled for February 2024.

Wakama a former national player replaced Otis Hughley at the end of June and took charge of the team within few weeks to the start of the tournament.

D’Tigress advancing to the AfroBasket final for the four consecutive time after they won it in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
