FIFA WWC 2023: Super Falcons To Play England In The Round Of 16

Super Falcons of Nigeria have book their place to the round of 16 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup holding in Australia and New Zealand.

The girls played out a goalless draw with debutants Ireland to sealed their round of 16 berth.

It was a cagey encounter as both teams played and lost possession with chances came begging throughout the 90minutes of play.

Super Falcons are the one who saw clear cut chances and came closed to scoring in the second half as Irish goalkeeper parried Uchenna Kanu’s header to the cross bar to keep the game at bay.

Nigeria knew a draw will be enough for them as they were calm and defended with their hearts towards the end of the match.

The center referee blasted her whistle to end the game after seven minutes added time.

The West African Giant are now first Africa to qualified for the round of 16 in second position with five points behind co-hosts Australia who whitewashed Olympic champions Canada 4-0 to top the group.

Super Falcons will play European Champions England in the round of 16 next Monday, 7 August, 2023.
