Ondo State born goalkeeper, Mercy Adebayo, revealed that Karim Adeyemi and Nnadozie Chiamaka are her role models in football.
The 400 level student of Psychology at University of Ibadan, Oyo State, explained this in a media chat while narrating her journey so far in the game.
Adebayo narrated that her journey started from childhood in a compound football sets.
‘I started playing football from childhood but not fully oriented as a girl child playing football, when I got to school I had some orientation about playing football in Nigeria because I mostly grew up watching Germany women playing, which made me had a lot of passion for football’ She said.
The current gallant shot stopper of Apex Angels of Ibadan added that she started training with a team and fully started her football career in the year 2020.
‘So far, I had challenges about what role to play because my major passion was in scoring goals and playing but along the line I saw a lot of vacant space in goalkeeping and I had to start developing an interest in goalkeeping, I really faced a lot of indecision’. She added.
The dependable goalkeeper also revealed her parents’ opinion about her choosing the game of soccer.
‘My Mummy was not supporting me becoming a footballer, but my Daddy allowed me then not until they started seeing some of my pictures and videos on social media. That was when I gained their support fully, and they have been my wonderful Fans and my pillars since then’
Adebayo Mercy has dreamed to play for the national team in the future and noted that with continuous efforts and commitment, her dream will surely come true.
