Kwara United Ends Remo Stars Unbeaten Run To Claim First NPFL Season Win

Shola Abdulraheem second half goal gave Kwara United first win of the campaign.

The 1-0 victory ended the unbeaten run of Remo Stars in the match day five of the Nigeria Premier Football League played at Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin.

Coach Tunde Sanni who made few changes to his side in their last home match against Ikorodu City as the team showed glimpses of vision and purpose.

The encounter saw energy from the home side as they dictated the game to the visitors.

It was an insipid display in the first half from the Ikenne based side as they failed to create any chances.

Kwara United played with bravery, purpose and direction spreading the ball around to gain some momentum as they searched for an opener in the first half.

Remo Stars for their indiscipline were brandished with three yellow cards for a bookable offence.

The trio of Victor Adeoye, Akanni Akeem and Shola Abdulraheem in the midfield and the duo Alalade and Aimufa upfront showed more purpose for the home side as they tormented the defence of Remo Stars on several occasions as the match ended 0-0 in the first half.

After the restart of second half Kwara United began from where they left off as they pressed for an opener.

The hard work, resilience and purpose later paid off with Shola Abdulraheem breaking the deadlock with a solo efforts putting the ball into the bottom left corner of the nets in the 56 minutes.

The stadium erupted as the fans went into wildly jubilation.

But before the goal, Remo Stars were down to ten men as former Kwara United player Sani Faisal was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Daniel Ogunmodede immediately after the goal was conceded made three substitutions, which showed a sign of purpose as they pressed for an equalizer.

There was a tension inside the stadium as Kwara United defender Olaniyi Saheed was down on the field of play suffering from concussion after a well struck free-kick hit him on the face but was later resuscitated by the intervention of the medical team.

However, as the game resumed, Kwara United stood firm to defend the lead resolutely with their heart and soul to seal the first victory of the campaign.

Chief Coach of Kwara United, Ashifat Suleiman praised the boys for their determination and resilience to seal the important victory.

Remo Stars Coach, Daniel Ogunmodede expressed his disappointment over his team performance.

Kwara United travel to Abia Warriors for the match day six encounter of the NPFL slated for next Sunday.
