Tennis: Serena Williams & Novak Djokovic Motivated Me To Be A Tennis Player – Olayinka Azeez

Ibadan born young promising tennis player Olayinka Azeez has stated hat her dream to become a tennis player was groomed by the love and passion of her role models Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic.

The 16-year-old who revealed this in a brief chat with news men said she has been monitoring and following the two Role model over the years, and she developed much interest in tennis through their performances.

Azeez explained why she chosen both Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic as role model

“ I chosen Serena Williams because she’s a vibrant and energetic tennis player, Serena’s story shows how people can accomplish their dreams with a lot of hard work and dedication, Serena Williams doesn’t like to lose, and I like that, also I chosen Novak Djokovic because he’s a source of inspiration to me, he won almost all his matches”. She said.

The young Serena Williams explained that her tennis career aspiring started when she was aged 9.

“ I started developed interest in tennis since I was 9yrs old. I was familiar with table tennis, the first time I saw something related to Tennis was on someone’s phone, an area sister, I saw a picture of a female tennis player, she was holding a racket and ball, I fell so much in love with it, and I’ve been aspiring since then”. She added.

She noted that her parents have no issues with her becoming a tennis player since it’s what she chosen and she has been updating them with stories about sports, so they have the idea already.

While appealing to Oyo State government, under the leadership of Engr Seyi Makinde to channel more energy on Oyo State Tennis Association, she appreciated the efforts of the chairman of the association, Dr. Mogaji Akin Fagbemi, other members including the coaches and also kudos to the Oyo State Tennis players both Junior and Senior team.

Olayinka Azeez, a 200-level student of the Department of Human Kinetics, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo state is set to join Oyo State Tennis Association as a player in a bid to achieve her goals and represent the state.
