WBC-ABU AMATEURS BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP: Kwara Boxers Claim Medals, To Represent Nigeria In Mexico

The two Kwara boxers, Saheed Jamiu and Abdulsalam Alata won gold and bronze medal respectively at the just concluded WBC-ABU AMATEURS BOXING CHAMPIONSHIP.

The championship which was organized by YUCATECO BOXING PROMOTION took place at Molade Okoya Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

In a mouthwatering final, Saheed Jamiu representing Nigeria defeated Akonmany Clement of Togo to claim a gold medal.

The victory also qualified him to represent Nigeria and Africa in Mexico later this year at the World Boxing Championship in Mexico City to fight for the golden belt in 81kg.

According to their manager, Odelana Olaoluwa Peter, who was also present at the event, noted that Abdulsalam Alata claimed a bronze medal in 69kg category.

He explained that, Alata withdrew against his Togolese opponents Yousof Andelek following a slight injury sustained.

He further explained that, Abdulsalam Alata will now need to take part in another qualifier with other Nigeria boxer very soon to have a chance of making it to latter stage.

Saheed Jamiu and Abdulsalam Alata in their joyous mood, expressed their elation for the breakthrough.
