Emulate Taiwo Awoniyi, Ondo SWAN Vice Chair Encourages Nigerian Professional Athletes

Isaac Afolabi, the Ondo state vice chairman of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has urged other prominent athletes in the Super Eagles and across various professional sports to elevate their commitment by giving back to society, following the exemplary actions of Super Eagles star and Nottingham Forest FC striker, Taiwo Awoniyi.

Afolabi made this known in Ilorin on Thursday while touring the rapidly developing Kwara SWAN Secretariat, a project generously supported by Awoniyi as part of his substantial charitable contribution aimed at enhancing sports in Kwara, his home state.

The Nottingham striker took on the responsibility of completing the construction of the facility after it had been halted for nearly a decade due to financial constraints.

“The remarkable initiative undertaken by Awoniyi here in Kwara is truly commendable.

“On behalf of the Ondo State chapter of SWAN, I extend special appreciation to him for his significant contribution to our colleagues in Kwara state he said.

Additionally, through the Taiwo Awoniyi Foundation, the footballer is also sponsoring the 5th Ex Pro Squash tournament currently taking place at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin.

“Awoniyi has exemplified a profound understanding of the concept of societal philanthropy.

“He recognizes that the media, particularly within the realm of sports, is an integral part of society that warrants support and outreach.

“We applaud his efforts,” Afolabi expressed.
