Nigeria Female Basketball Team, D’Tigress see off Mozambique in the quarter-finals match to book their place in the semi-finals at the ongoing FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Kigali, Rwanda.
The defending champion came from behind to beat their West African counterpart 59-52 on Wednesday night in closed encounter.
D’Tigress under their new head coach Rena Wakama did excellently well in a cagey encounter with 16-18, 13-15, 18-10 and 12-9 in the first, second, third and fourth quarter respectively.
The match was in favour of the Mozambique in the first and second quarter, but defending champion Nigeria rally round and came from behind with superb display in the third and fourth quarter.
Nigeria reached the last eight after two comfortable wins in group stage. They began with a 69-35 demolition of Dr Congo before seeing off Egypt 83-65.
D’Tigress will face hosts Rwanda in the semi-finals who defeated Uganda 66-61 in the last eight.
Wakama a former national player replaced Otis Hughley at the end of June and took charge of the team within few weeks to the start of the tournament will be looking to win the AfroBasket for four consecutive time after the D’Tigress won it in 2017, 2019 and 2021.
