Absence Of 10 States Won’t Dampen Thrills Of Para Games– Minister

Minister of Sports Development, Sen John Owan Enoh has stated that traction in the National Para Games, NPG, is in on the upswing, insisting that the absence of whole 10 states from the sporting event won’t take away from its glamour.

The Minister pointed out that NPG is in its second year and needs its time to grow, while also clarifying that the absence of the states in question doesnt at all mean that the games doesnt have the buy in of the governors.

The minsiter said this in Abuja shortly after declaring the games open at the mainbowl of he Moshood Abiola Stadium.

“I dont think so. The games is in the second year. I believe that every new edition should get more and more traction and we will be getting more and more buy in. What is important is for the game to continue to run and without prejudice to what may have happened in the past, what we can assure is that the next edition of this game will be bigger in terms of the number of participating states.

“By then, I believe we will have been able to get a greater buy in from all stakeholders,” the minister said.

The minister further said that him and his team are working to get corporate sponsors into sports development.

” The future of this sector is in the hands of the private sector,” he said.

Elaborating further, he said said that the corporate sponsors are only waiting for the right push to get things right for sports development.

“All I believe in is that I need to provide the right leadership, then other things will follow. After assuming office as Minister of Sports, I have had engagements and interactions with the private sector, with corporate bodies and personalities. I am not yet done.

“I am looking forward to gathering all of them together in one place and see if we can talk. This is because the. I think that the leadership I am going to provide here with my team is a leadership that gets the private sector to have a responsibility. In terms of what it can do, to see how they can enable sports to grow in our country. I believe for example that the private sector is not an impossible sector.

“There are people who not only Nigerians, but have been part of the history of our country. I think that if we strike the right cords, if we are able to let them see the vision we have, I believe that can help us achieve them,” Sen Enoh said.
