AFCON: Insipid Super Eagles Beats Guinea Bissau To Qualify For Knockout Stage, Host Nation To Know Their Fate

Super Eagles have booked their place to the next round of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast after defeated already eliminated Guinea Bissau 1-0.

The encounter was played at 50, 000 Stade Felix Houphouet Bogny stadium in Abidjan on Monday.

Jose Peseiro made four changes to the team that defeated hosts Ivory Coast with Omeruo who captain the side replaced Ekong at the back, with Simon, Osayi and Aribo replacing Sanusi, Iwobi and Lookman respectively.

Nigeria with their insipid performance create not enough chances against the Djurtus as they misplaced passes in the midfield to give their opponents a lifeline in the encounter.

Guinea Bissau dominated from beginning upon to the 30 minutes of the game as Super Eagles lack cohesion, coordination and togetherness we saw against Ivory Coast.

Guinea Bissau coach Baciro Cande who made 10 changes to his side thoughts his side have an equalizer as he celebrated in the technical area but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The three-time champions also thought have extend their lead through Sanusi but it was also ruled out for an offside and Osimhen goal was also ruled out for an offside close to the end.

With the narrow and drab victory, Super Eagles came out with second position with 7 points and await their opponents in the next round.

In other match in the group A, Equatorial Guinea disgraced the hosts after thumping them with 4-0 in front of the vociferous home fans topping the group with goal difference, Cote d’Ivoire to know their gait if they will be part of the 4 best third place.
