The Lawmaker Representing Ogbomoso North, South and Orire Federal Constituency, Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala has called for a better service in generating National Identity Number (NIN)
Hon. Alao-Akala moved the motion at the plenary on Wednesday 21st February, 2024. He noted that NIN is a unique number that identifies the recipient as a Nigerian, issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) after enrollment.
He stressed that, it is a common knowledge that Nigerians go through arduous times in getting their NIN, noting that the challenges can be managed through effective and efficient systems.
Chairman House Committee on Youths in Parliament urged the Honorable House to mandate the NIMC to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Health.
He further reiterated that, partnering agencies, hospitals and all other relevant players to register and generate the NIN for all citizens and legal residents in Nigeria upon birth, will be a significant step towards improving identity management in
Nigeria.
Hon. Alao-Akala concluded that, it is imperative that Nigeria should adopt a reliable and secure database system for effective identification and documentation of the citizens.
