The head coach of female Nigeria Basketball team, Rena Wakama got her first win against Congo DR at the ongoing Afrobasket Women Championship in Kigali, Rwanda on Friday.
Wakama who is the only female coach at the 2023 championship was appointed as the head coach for the Nigeria Women’s basketball team, D’Tigress for two years.
She replaced Otis Hughley who resigned from his role with five-time Afrobasket champions in 2022.
Wakama who hails from Rivers, is a former national team player and is an assistant coach at Stony Brooks University in the US.
D’Tigress who had a victory over DR Congo 69-35, and Wakama will be hoping to record a second victory when they play Egypt on Sunday, 30th, July for their next group game.
