My Parents Want Me To Join Army At All Cost – Ibadan Professional Teenage Tennis Player.

Ibadan-based young promising tennis player, Onyekachi Ogumjiofor, has explained his journey in tennis career.

Ogumjiofor while featuring on a Yoruba sports program titled ‘Idan Nlo’ on Crest 91.1 FM, Ibadan explained that his journey was shaped well by his coach.

‘At the age of six, I have been practicing tennis on the court with the assistance of my coach, the head tennis coach of Oyo State, Ganiyu Tirimisiyu he’s the one who groomed me from the beginning to this stage and I can say that he is God sent to me’. He said.

The SS1 student of Eleyele high school, Ibadan Oyo State, revealed that his parents wanted him to be a military personnel in the future but he has chosen to be a tennis player and they later supported him.

He pointed to Rafael Nadal as his role model in the tennis game, adding that Nadal’s winning mentality has motivated him so far.

While speaking on the show, the Head Coach of Tennis in Oyo State, Ganiyu Tirimisiyu commended the efforts of Ogumjiofor and also urged him not to relent in pursuing his career.

Coach Tirimisiyu appreciated and gave kudos to the Chairman of Oyo State Tennis Association, Dr. Mogaji Akin Fagbemi for his massive support for the progress of the association.

He added that the Chairman has been a strong backup and pillar of the game of tennis in Oyo state.

Onyekachi Ogumjiofor who hails from Owerri, imo state, has represented Nigeria and Oyo State in different tennis competitions and came out with beautiful results.
