The president of Nigeria Teqball Federation (NIGTEQ) Engr. Habu Gumel has expressed his sadness over the inability of Kwara State to hold the World Teqball Championship qualifiers.
Engr. Habu Gumel reacted to this at the just concluded World Teqball Championship qualifiers held at the Indoor Sports Hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Sunday 24th, 2023.
It can be recalled that Kwara State was selected to host the qualifiers but which was shifted twice, before opted out due to poor funding.
He expressed his feelings that, a state blessed with talents and keeps giving a remarkable performance could not embrace the sports.
Gumel further expressed that, state that keeps giving out sumptuous performance both at the national and international championship could not support the sport which has become a pride for the state.
The President of the NIGTEQ, noted that, the game has become something athletes can depend on for their means of livelihood and advice the state to avoid other states poaching the athletes from them.
He called on the State Sports Commission to give necessary support and encouragement to the athletes for the development of the game in the state.
Engr. Habu Gumel however appealed to the Sports Commission to facilitate the growth of the game in the state so as to avoid other states who are emulating of poaching on the well established players from the state.
Kwara Teqball Team retained their glory as Nigeria Champion at the just concluded World Teqball Championship qualifiers as they won all their matches in all categories of the event.
