Gaa-Akanbi FC continue their impressive run at the Oba-Ara Cup 2023 Football competition as they defeated Olulade FC to have two in two sealing their qualifications to the semi-final.
The six teams competition sponsored by Oba-Ara Engineering Limited in commemoration of 61st birthday of former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki CON kicked off on Monday is holding at Tobacco Field, Gaa-Imam Ilorin.
Gaa-Akanbi FC pipped Olulade FC, who needed a win by 1nil with the goal coming in the early of first half.
It was a cagey encounter between the two sides as both teams gone blazing in front of goal but it was victorious side who utilized their begging chances in the first half.
After the restart of the second half Olulade FC who needed a win to seal their qualifications to the semis showed their attacking style of the game but their opponents remain resolute in the defense to defend their lead.
The loosing side came pressing to search for an equalizer but they have themselves to blame as all the chances they had were wasted to crashed out of the competition with no point.
In the second match of the third day encounter witnessed soccer artistry between Okaa Sports FC and Vision FC.
The latter needed a win to qualify while Okaa Sports needed a draw.
Okaa Sports FC who were missing few of their key players sitting deep as they knew a draw will be enough to progress to the semi-final.
But Vision FC with carefulness and confidence came out to search for a goal and this paid off for them.
The goal came in half hour mark as a cross was delivered from left wing beating the goalkeeper to allow number 9 jersey nodded in into an empty nets to give Vision FC the lead as the first ended 1-0.
After the restart of the second half Okaa Sports came out with full force searching for an equalizer, but Vision FC defended with their heart and souls to make it to the final four.
In the semi-finals pairing Gaa-Akanbi FC will lock horns with Vision FC, while Champions FC will be trading tackles with Future Stars for place in the final.
The semi-finals is on Saturday 16th and final will come up on Tuesday 19th to celebrate the 61st birthday of former Senate President Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki CON.
