Oba-Ara Cup 2023: Gaa-Akanbi FC Defeats Future Stars, As Okaa Sports, Champions FC Games End In Stalemate

Gaa-Akanbi FC defeated Future Stars FC by 2-1 in the first match of the second day of Oba-Ara Cup 2023.

The six teams competition was organized and sponsored by O.O Oba-Ara Engineering Limited in commemoration of 61st birthday of former Senate President Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, CON.

The match which is holding at Tobacco Field, Gaa-Imam Ilorin, saw the two sides show glimpsed of energy, strength and athleticism throughout the encounter.

But it was Gaa-Akanbi FC who draw the first blood with Sa’ad Mohammed beating the offside trap to tap in to take lead.

Future Stars who needed a draw to make it to the next round after they defeated Olulade FC in their first match pressing on to search for an equalizer.

There pressing forward yielded a result after a player was fouled in the 18 yard box and referee pointed to the spot.

Joshua Aiyenugba the son of Kwara United goalkeeper Dele Aiyenugba who netted a brace in opening match against Olulade FC stepped forward to convert it to make it 1-1 to increased his tally to 3 goals.

In the second half Gaa-Akanbi FC came gone blazing searching for a win and after an hour mark Korede Quadir restored the lead for Gaa-Akanbi after robbing off the ball from the defender to dribble past the goal keeper to make it 2-1 on the score lines and sealed a victory for his side.

In the second match of the day between Okaa Sports FC and Champion FC ended in a stalemate.

But the draw was enough for Champion FC to sealed their qualifications to the next round after their victory over Vision FC in their first match yesterday.

Actions continue on Wednesday (tomorrow) at the same venue, where Olulade FC will lock horns with their noisy neighbors Gaa-Akanbi FC, while Okaa Sports FC will trade tackles with Vision FC in all to play for match.
