Oyome Emerges 9th LGAN Championship

Evelyn Oyome of Ikoyi golf club has emerged winner of the 9th Western Zone LGAN Championship held in Ilorin with a total gross of 260 over 54 holes .

The LGAN President led from start to finish to show her dominance of the women’s game beating Shade Ajala of Tiger Golf club Ibadan, to 2nd place,21 shots apart. Shade Opawunmi of Ikeja golf club who was 2nd going into the 3rd and final round capitulated to settle for 3rd place after shooting 96 on the final day.

Mary Onyejose of Tiger golf club Ibadan finished 4th to round up the best finishers for the Handicap 0 – 18 category.

The second category, Handicap 19 -28 was won by Joyce Nule of Port Harcourt golf club with a gross of 301, six shots better of K. Erayetan of Abeokuta golf club, while Fatima Usman of Abeokuta golf club placed 3rd.

The veteran category was won by Western Zone Vice President, Evelyn Balogun of Ilorin golf club while Funke Majekodunmi , Trustees Western Zone, won the Super Veteran category.

The Handicap 29 – 36 category was won by Linda Taiwo of Ilorin golf club with a gross of 105 over 18 holes .

In the men’s category who played as guest in the event, the category was dominated by members of Ilorin golf club as Muhammed Jamiu won with a gross of 81, followed by Luqman Owolewa, a shot back on 82. One shot further back in 3rd place is Femi Kuranga.

Festus Idehen of Tiger golf club Ibadan won the category 19 -28 handicap with 90 gross, while former governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatai Ahmed of Ilorin golf club finished 2nd with a gross of 91 and AbdulRaheem Malik of Ilorin golf club in 3rd place with 92 gross.

Other winnners are Sule Ajayi won the Veteran category and Hezekiah Oyedemi the Super Veteran category.

In her remarks at the closing ceremony, the Zonal Vice president LGAN Western Zone, Evelyn Balogun thanked the main Sponsor of the event, Kwara state government and other co-sponsors for giving lady golfers in the country another opportunity to play in a World Amateur Ranking event .

The event featured about 120 players,male and female over the 3 days event staged at the Ilorin golf course.
