Nwenwe, NAFF Technical Director Thumbs Impressed By Game Standard

Kwara amputee soccer team confounded spectators at the Package A training pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja in their first match against Lagos in the ongoing National Para Games.

Though the game ended 0-0, spectators agreed that the Kwara team could have been ahead by as much as two goals despite their opponents not being a push over.

The Lagos team came into the match with strong pedigree.

Their coach, Gbenga Dosumu, is the current head coach of Special Eagles, the amputee soccer national team.

It also boasts of a number of national team players against the Kwara side which had Sharafadeen Olalekan, Special Eagles’s captain who had double also as player to say after one of his players couldn’t meet the classification requirements.

But speaking briefly after the match, Olalekan said he wasn’t surprised at the stiff competition his team got from Lagos.

No man of the match had been named as at the time of filing this report.

According to Victor Nwenwe, technical director, National Amputee Football Federation, NAFF, there is always process for making such announcement.

“A team will look at the game and compare note. After which we would consult the referee to see if their are no infractions against him,” he said.

Nwenwe also gushed at the standards displayed by the players.

“The improvement is remarkable considering that this is just the second edition of the competition.

“The technical depth has increased; even the officiating has improved tremendously.

“I am glad we had this competition,” he said.
