The Chairman of Kwara Football Association Alh. Idris Abdullahi Musa says it will be extremely difficult task to conduct random tests for players at the top-flights league.
Kwara FA Chairman popularly known as “Thuraya” made this assertion during the 2nd edition of “Sports Hard Talk” a media chats on sports development in Kwara State organized by Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Kwara State Chapter on Friday 6th October, 2023 at Football House in Ilorin.
According to him, players can’t be stopped not to be taking different kinds of drugs, but certain drugs that are legal but it’s reads as it is illegal like drugs for cattarh, should not be taken by players when going to play football.
” They are certain drugs that are legal and it reads as if it is illegal in the body, so we don’t take that, when you re going to play football” Thuraya said.
He said the only way to solve the problem is by having a doping machine by making sure of checking the players before they go to the pitch.
Alh Thuraya also said that, another ways doping can be curbed is to sensitize, advice and educate the players and to let them know the consequences behind it.
“The only thing we can do it is to sensitize, advice and educate them and let them know this is what is going to happen”
The Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board, Gbenga Elegbeleye said random tests would now be conducted in the top-flight to curb possible existence of drug abuse in the league as they are committed to joining the NFF, CAF, FIFA and global campaign for eradication of illicit substance use in Sports.
Kwara FA Chairman, however urged the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to take drastic action on any players cut in doping, so that other players will learn from it.
“We want NFF to take drastic action on that same person, so that other people we learn”
He said.
