A young female footballer Uzoamaka Christie has given credit to her mother as a pivotal figure in her football journey.
She expressed her gratitude during an interview with Babatunde Omotanwa, popularly known as Ogosport, a sports presenter at Crest 91.1 FM in Ibadan.
Reflecting on her journey, an attacking midfielder of FC HIRONDELLES of Burkina Faso, highlighted her mother’s unwavering support during her formative years, particularly while she represented her secondary school in Abuja.
She acknowledged her mother’s encouragement and the guidance of her coaches as crucial factors in her development.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including obstacles in pursuing opportunities with Nigerian women’s football teams and encountering skepticism from peers and relatives, the talented midfielder remained steadfast in her faith in God and her own abilities.
Uzoamaka emphasized that her determination and talent served as her primary motivations in overcoming adversity and achieving success in football.
She also expressed her enduring affection for Nigerian football and her aspirations to soon represent the Nigerian women’s national team.
Uzoamaka’s journey in football began when she was discovered by a school coach in Abuja during her primary school years. She has previously played for several Nigerian-based female teams and some teams in Benin republic, Togo and currently plying her trade with FC HIRONDELLES, a top-tier female team in the Burkina Faso first division. Currently, HIRONDELLES holds the 8th position in the Burkina Faso women’s football league with 12 points.
