Barrister Abdulkadir Aiyelabegan, chairman, Kwara State Para Athletics Association, KPAA, on Tuesday in Abuja, stated that Kwara will soon be on recorded to have hosted the first North Central Para Games.
According to him, Kwara can be a major destination for Para Athletics in the country, going by the state’s consistent performance in the ongoing National Para Games, NPG, in Abuja where it currently sits within the best five in the medals log.
“Like said the other time, we have plans of organizing the first North Central Para Athletics Games. That is still on course and we will do it. We are not just looking at organizing regional event, we also looking ahead to organizing a national event too.
Kwara as Tuesday evening had won two gold medals, two silvers and five bronze.
For the sports association, the state indeed has improved on its last outing where it sat on the ninth position. He believes that the state is ripe enough to hold a major para athletic meet in the days ahead.
“If you have been following my pronouncement on Para athletics, I have been more about organizing events; for me to indicate and acted swiftly to organizing event, I want you to know that my interest will not be local.
“I am looking forward to bringing all Para Athletes to Kwara state to participate in one game or the other. By the time we are ready to do that, I am sure that government will be ready to support us. I want to say it too that for other sports, we will give them a run for their money in terms of competing for attention,” he said.
Aiyelabegan’s call is came barely a day after Hon. Rukayat Shittu, chairwoman, House Committee on Sports, Information, Tourism and Culture made similar remark in Abuja.
